Ottawa web design agencies compared on published price

Hiring · Published

Nine Ottawa web design agencies publish a price. This is all of them in one table, with what each price includes, whether hosting is extra, how long support lasts and whether the agency states that you own the result. Every figure is taken from the agency's own pricing page and dated. Shinobi Media is one row among the others. Last checked 19 September 2026.

How to read this table

Compare the three-year cost rather than the invoice. A $999 package with hosting at $25 a month costs $1,899 over three years. A $799 package with no tax added costs $799 plus whatever you choose afterwards. The headline numbers are two hundred dollars apart; the real ones are more than a thousand.

Then compare what happens when something goes wrong or you want to leave. A support period and a written ownership clause are worth more than a small difference in price, and they are the two things a cheap quote most often omits.

Where an offer is not directly comparable, the row says so. A template build is a real product that suits some businesses; it is simply not the same thing as a custom design, and putting the two in one column without saying so would be the sort of comparison this table exists to replace.

Agencies that do not publish a price

Most Ottawa agencies quote on request rather than publishing, which is a legitimate way to sell project work and not a mark against anyone. It does mean they cannot appear in a table of published prices.

Among the larger and longer-established firms in the city, several will quote a small business website in the $5,000 to $15,000 range and a more complex build considerably above that. If you are getting quotes at that level, the questions in the next section matter more than the number.

What to ask whichever agency you choose, including us

  • Who owns the code, the domain and the hosting account when we are finished? If the answer is anything other than you, you are renting your own front door.
  • Is hosting included, and for how long? Then work out the three-year total.
  • How many revision rounds are included, and what happens after that?
  • What exactly is included for SEO? "SEO included" with no specifics usually means the meta description was filled in.
  • How long is support after launch, and what counts as support?
  • Is the design custom or a template being adapted? Both are legitimate. Being told a template is a custom design is not.
  • Can I speak to a client you built for in the last year?

Where Shinobi Media sits, stated plainly

We are the lowest published price in the table at every comparable tier, and that is a deliberate position rather than an accident: each price is set 15 to 20 percent under the cheapest comparable published rate and re-checked quarterly. The reason it is sustainable is overhead, not corner-cutting. There is no downtown office, no account management layer and no sales commission, and the engineering that every site needs is reused rather than rebuilt each time.

What we do not have is longevity. Two of the agencies in this table have been operating for a decade or more, and one for over twenty years, with the review counts to match. If that matters more to you than price, it is a fair reason to choose them, and we would rather say so here than have you find out after a sales call.

Methodology

Agencies were included if they operate in the Ottawa region and publish a price for website design on their own website. Prices were read from the agency's own pricing or services page on the date shown in each row, and no figure here comes from a directory, an estimate or a third-party listing.

Nothing in this table is an assessment of anyone's work, only of what they publish. Rows are re-checked every quarter and the date on each row is updated whether or not the price changed. If your agency's figure is wrong or out of date, tell us and it will be corrected at the next review or sooner.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the cheapest web design agency in Ottawa?

Of Ottawa agencies that publish a price for custom design, Shinobi Media is the lowest at every comparable tier: $449 for one page, $799 for up to six and $1,199 for up to fifteen with local SEO, each a final price with no tax added. Template builders advertise lower, from $269, for a theme rather than a custom design and with hosting billed separately.

Which Ottawa web design agency is best?

It depends on what you are optimising for, and any list claiming a single answer is ranking by who paid for the placement. If longevity and a large review count matter most, the agencies operating in the city for a decade or more are the safer choice. If price, ownership and dealing directly with the builder matter most, a small studio will serve you better. The table above gives you the published facts to decide on rather than an opinion.

Do Ottawa web design agencies include hosting?

Most do not. The common arrangement is $15 to $25 a month billed separately, or $540 to $950 a year bundled with maintenance. Shinobi Media includes the first year in the build price. Always ask, because it is the single most common reason a quote turns out higher than the headline.

How do I compare two web design quotes fairly?

Match the scope first, then compare the three-year cost rather than the invoice: build price, plus hosting and maintenance for three years, plus anything one quote includes that the other charges for. Then compare the terms that are not money, mainly ownership, revision rounds and support period. Most quotes that look far apart are quoting different scopes.

Why does an agency include itself in its own comparison?

Because leaving ourselves out would be the more misleading choice, and because a table that only flatters the publisher is worth nothing to the reader. We appear on the same terms as everyone else, including the row about longevity where we come off worst. Every figure is sourced so you can check any of it, including ours.
